Valley Arts presents the 1st annual
Vermont Barns & Bridges Festival
September 14 - 16, 2018

A spectacular kick-off event for the fall foliage season!

There’s a new and exciting event coming to the Mad River Valley! From September 14th through 16th, Valley Arts and the Mad River Valley community present the first annual Vermont Barns and Bridges Festival—an original in the State of Vermont.

The weekend of barn and farm tours, special covered bridge events, art exhibitions, workshops, specialty foods, photo ops and activities can be shared by the entire family.

  • Waitsfield Historical Walking Tour - Pick up brochure at the Mad River Valley Visitor Center on Bridge Street in Waitsfield
  • Waitsfield Farmer's Market (9am - 1pm)
  • Barn Tour at The Inn at the Round Barn Farm (10am - noon)
  • Eating & Growing Food for Health at VT Food & Farm Tours (10am - 12:30pm)
  • FREE TRUFFLE if you mention the Barns and Bridges Festival at Nutty Steph's, 961C us route 2, Middlesex (10am - 6pm)
  • Chainsaw Woodcarving by Jonathan Draudt, outside on Bridge Street in Waitsfield (11am - 1:30pm)
  • Barns & Bridges Photo Exhibit, featuring photos by Phil Bobrow, at the Artisans' Gallery (11am - 6pm)
  • Lunch at Mint Restaurant (11:30am - 2:30pm)
  • Photo Show in the Big Red Barn at Lareau Farm (noon - 9pm)
  • Open Studio at Moosewalk Studios & Gallery (noon - 5pm)
    Visit an intimate gallery set in the Green Mountain National Forest. View art being created and experience a digital "darkroom". Visiting artists.
  • Chainsaw Woodcarving by Glenn Acker, outside at the Mad River Green in Waitsfield (1pm - 3:30pm)
  • Create a beautiful mosaic of the Great Eddy Bridge to be displayed locally, outside on the green behind Valley Arts' Festival Gallery, Waitsfield (10am - 2pm)
  • Folk Herbalism with Serena Fox at Mountain Rose Integrated Wellness Center (3:30pm - 5:30pm)
    a curious investigation of plant and herb wonders
  • Yoga, Meditation, and Workshops at Salt & Sand Studios (various times, click here for details)
  • Morefest, 940 RT 100B in Moretown (Car Show at 2pm, family activities at 4pm, fireworks at dusk)
  • Deanna Chilian, artist opening reception at the Festival Gallery at Valley Arts (5pm - 7pm)
  • Chicken Pie Supper (5:30pm)

  • Bridge History Talks: How the Bridges Were Built, at the Mad River Valley Visitor Center on Bridge Street in Waitsfield (1pm - 3pm)
    Stop in and learn from a bridge historian!  A presentation with Q& A will be delivered every 15 minutes.
  • Barns & Bridges Festival 'GlassFest' Party in the barn at Salt & Sand Studios (3pm - 6pm)
    In conjunction with Salt & Sand Studio's Grand Opening!  Join the Festivities in their lovingly restored 1800's barn-turned-glass-blowing-studio.  The evening includes a 'Get it while it's hot' Auction!  Click here for more details.
