The trail begins at the Battleground Condominiums. It is about 4 miles out and back but can be made longer by connecting to the Catamount Trail which then crosses the Long Trail. After passing the Battleground’s tennis courts, the trail heads right, into the woods, and climbs steeply for a ways then becomes more gradually uphill. After approximately 2 miles you come to a series of beaver ponds — a lovely place to stop and have a picnic. It is at this point that you can chose to continue along the Catamount Trail. Return by the same path. This trail is suitable for either snowshoes or cross-country skis.
Take Rt. 17 west to the Battleground Condominiums. Park between their covered bridge and Rt. 17 (look for the sign that says “Visitor parking”). Walk west up Rt. 17 to the tennis courts and follow the blue plastic diamond markers that go off to the right.
