Things to Do in the Mad River Valley

Summer -- Summers are lovely, with average highs in the mid-seventies to mid-eighties and cool, refreshing nights. Life slows down a bit and people relax and savor the natural beauty of the area. The Mad River is at the center of the Valley offering canoeing, kayaking, fly fishing, and swimming. Downhill and cross-country ski trails melt into outstanding mountain bike trails. Gliders soar over the Valley. Horse trips travel our back roads and trails. The Long Trail and local mountains offer breathtaking hikes. The Sugarbush Golf Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., is spectacularly set against the Green Mountains, .

Winter -- The Mad River Valley is home to two of New England's premier ski areas. Mad River Glen is a ski area like no other. It is a place where skiing remains an outdoor adventure in a pristine, natural setting. Sugarbush has something for everyone from the beginner area at Lincoln Peak to the challenge of Castlerock. The Valley is laced with cross-country, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling trails offering miles of uninterrupted travel. Olé's and Blueberry Lake XC centers offer many kilometers of tracked trails. Stowe is 18 miles north and Killington is 30 miles south, completing the choice of the finest of New England's skiing within an hour's drive.

Fall -- The Mad River Valley is a leaf peeper's dream with open vistas of brightly colored hillsides. Drive our beautiful back roads and soak in the countryside or view the foliage from a glider out of the Sugarbush Airport. Hike up high in the Green Mountains for a birds-eye view of the Valley, or simply walk around town checking out our shops and galleries. The Mad River Valley is also a very centrally located base for exploring Vermont.
