Open to the public in the winter, the Catamount Trail is North America's longest ski trail. Starting in Readsboro on the Massachusetts border, the trail winds its way for 300 miles through the heart of the Green Mountains to North Troy on the Canadian border. It passes right through the Mad River Valley from the Lincoln Gap in the south to Camel's Hump Park in the north.

Along the way, the trail connects many of Vermont's cross-country and alpine ski centers, while passing by countless country inns and lodges. The Trail is accessible to skiers with a wide range of abilities and offers a variety of terrain from breath-taking mountain climbs and descents to gently rolling fields and woodlands. Snowshoers are also welcome to use the Trail.

There are many access points. To have a safe and enjoyable tour of Vermont's Backcountry on the Catamount Trail the Catamount Trail Guidebook is an essential tool for planning your adventure. You should always have a guidebook with you to help steer your way through the backwoods of Vermont! You can order it on-line at the Catamount Trail website.
