Hyde Away Inn & Restaurant

For decades, Long Trail hikers have used The Hyde Away Inn & Restaurant as a comfortable stop over for a hot shower, good night's rest, great food & drink at affordable prices, laundry, re-supply, and a hearty breakfast before continuing their hike. The Hyde Away is the closest full service Inn to the Appalachian Gap Long Trail access. We're open 7 days a week year 'round. Generally, we can offer hikers a ride (or arrange for one) back to the Gap to start on their way again.

Inn guests, Valley visitors, and local hikers enjoy hiking The Hyde Away Trail that starts behind the Inn. The top of the trail connects to the end of Griggs Road, which links to all of the Bragg Hill trails.

The Hyde Away is also close to hiking and nature activities available at Mad River Glen and the surrounding area. A popular hike with locals is from the base of Mad River Glen, up the work road, to the summit of the single chair (moderate difficulty). A picnic at the Stark's Nest is always fun. Other hikes in the immediate area are:

  • Long Trail: Gap to Gap (Most Difficult)
  • Long Trail: General Stark Mountain (Difficult)
  • Molly Stark's Balcony (Moderate)
  • Phen Basin (Moderate)
  • North Fayston Walk (Easy)
  • Bragg Hill Road Walk (Moderate)

Often hikers begin and end their hike at The Hyde Away so they can enjoy a refreshing beverage and, perhaps, a bite to eat in the tavern or outside on the deck.
