Long Trail Gap to Gap

image description

A full day and 11.6 miles along the Long Trail will take you to the Summit of Mount Abraham, across the top of Lincoln Peak, Mount Ellen, and General Stark Mountain and end with an exciting descent to Rt. 17 and the Appalachian Gap. Two cars, or a ride at the end, are necessary for this hike as are a good pair of hiking boots and lots of water.

If you begin at the Lincoln Gap, from the intersection of Rt. 100 and Rt. 17 travel 5 mile south on Rt. 100 and make right onto Lincoln Gap Road. Travel up Lincoln Gap Road approximately 4 miles. Two dirt parking areas will appear on the left side of road. Trail head is just past second parking area on the right side of the road.

If you begin at the Appalachian Gap, from the intersection of Rt. 100 and Rt. 17 take Rt. 17 west to the top of the Appalachian Gap and park in the parking area on the right.

As in all mountain hiking, be sure to wear sturdy shoes, bring lots of water, and be prepared for changeable weather. Detailed hiking maps are available in 50 Hikes in Vermont by the Green Mountain Club and the Guide Book of the Long Trail also by the Green Mountain Club.
