Sunset Rock
The Sunset Rock hike on The Long Trail is relatively short outing that quickly takes the participant to absolutely spectacular views of the Champlain Valley and the Adirondack Mountain Range from an elevation of over 2000 feet.
Once at the trail head, follow the white-blazed Long Trail South markings to the Green Mountain National Forest registration box. The trail starts with a moderate ascent through a high range forest as it enters the Bread Loaf Wilderness Area. After the trail experiences a number of steeper switchbacks, it will traverse a number of large rock croppings which may become slippery in wet conditions.
As the trail begins a slight decline you will come upon a large rock overhang facing west towards Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks.
