accessMRV

accessMRV is the name of the Mad River Valley’s community-wide initiative to develop a new culture and understanding of the importance of accessibility. We are excited to embark on a journey to enhance the accessibility and inclusivity of our community. Our mission is simple yet so important:

To create an environment where all visitors and residents can enjoy everything the Mad River Valley has to offer, regardless of their abilities.  Our efforts are all encompassing: aiming to improve physical accessibility, communication, resources, and overall awareness of accessibility needs. We strive to create a seamless experience for individuals with diverse abilities and to foster a community-wide ethos of encouraging accessibility.

We believe that accessibility is not a checkbox; it is a philosophy that enriches the lives of individuals and strengthens our community bonds.

This campaign is not just about making changes; it’s about fostering a culture of empathy, understanding, and collaboration. We encourage every member of the Mad River Valley community to join us in this endeavor. Together, we can help to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create a more inclusive future for all. The goals of this initiative are to:

  • Foster a community-wide culture and understanding of the importance of accessibility
  • Encourage businesses to prioritize accessibility issues and help them to understand there are positive reasons to do so
  • Create and maintain a business resource page
  • Develop a fund to aid businesses in becoming more accessible
(Alan Clark Hill Climb and grant procurement)
  • Encourage improved accessibility and access to recreational opportunities such as trail development
  • Become a leader in creating an accessible community for all abilities

On this web page, you will find essential information about our ongoing initiatives, upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and ways you can contribute to the initiative. Whether you’re a long-time resident, a business owner, or a first-time visitor, your involvement and support are vital to our success.

Let’s unite under the banner of accessibility and showcase the true spirit of the Mad River Valley – a place where everyone belongs and where barriers are replaced with open doors. Together, we can build a more accessible and equitable community for generations to come.
