Amphibian Ecology and Road Rescue Training (Virtual)

Did you know that Wood Frogs freeze solid all winter long? Did you know that Eastern Red-backed Salamanders are the most common vertebrate in the whole forest? Each spring, amphibians migrate by the millions from upland forests to wetland breeding grounds, often crossing roadways at their peril. Join Mad River Libraries and North Branch Nature Center for a virtual training to learn more about these fascinating animals and opportunities to aid in their conservation.

NBNC’s Amphibian Road Crossing program trains volunteers to survey migration sites to help amphibians across the road while collecting valuable data that informs local conservation and transportation planning efforts. Over the last five years, ARC volunteers conducted 900 surveys and documented 17,000 amphibians at 193 crossing sites across Vermont. This community science project accommodates volunteers of all ages and backgrounds — the only requirement is an eagerness to enjoy and protect our local amphibians!
