Grafton Village Cheese Tasting
February 16, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Grafton’s award-winning cheeses have a rich history that comes through with every bite. Stop by this tasting event at the Mad River Taste Place and you will be able to experience that first-hand.
The Grafton Cooperative Cheese Company was founded in 1892 by dairy farmers who gathered together in a cooperative to make their surplus raw milk into cheese. In the days before refrigeration, there were many such cooperatives in the rural agricultural communities and an abundance of fresh, creamy milk was turned into a food that could be stored for a longer period of time. In 1912, a fire destroyed the original factory and it wasn’t until the mid 1960’s that the nonprofit Windham Foundation restored the company and it was once again making cheese. One constant thread since 1892 is that Grafton’s cheese is made by hand using premium raw milk from small, local family farms.
