Meet the Maker – Melle Finelli Jewelry

July 30 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join us Saturday, July 30 for a “Meet the Maker” event, where you can shop Melissa’s sculptural contemporary jewelry creations while asking questions and learning about her process.

While at Atelier 101, you can also browse the works of and meet ceramic artists Stephanie Grace & Alicja Costanza.

Make it a full “Sip & Shop” experience by visiting our friends next door at The Mad River Taste Place where they will be hosting a tasting of Eden Cider, Vermont ice ciders, aperitif ciders and harvest ciders crafted from locally sourced, sustainably grown apples.

Melissa Finelli is a jeweler and metalsmith who splits her time between Vermont and Boston. Melissa studied metalsmithing at the North Bennet Street School and sculpture at the School of Museum of Fine Arts. Melissa’s award-winning works are intimate sculptures to adorn the body and encompass an appreciation for organic forms and playful design. Her jewelry is forged by hand in silver or 18k gold by heating the metal, and then hammered to sculpt the piece into life. By creating jewelry in this process it is Melissa’s intention that no two pieces are exactly alike. Her jewelry showcases smooth forms, playful spinning circles, or sprouting appendages in unfussy designs.

“My process is spontaneous. I don’t plan or draw out my idea; most often I don’t know what the piece will become until the very last moment. I am always in motion in the studio- hammering, sawing, and soldering a flurry of activity. The process of hand fabricating allows me to work spontaneously, letting one thing lead to another. While manipulating my materials I aim to create movement and space in a solid form. The challenges of engineering these intimate sculptures excites me. I am drawn to the inherent obsessiveness of creating these minute compositions, all the while seeking a balance of precision and chaos in each piece.”

In 2016, we had a vision to create a single destination that showcases and celebrates the best food and beverages in the Mad River Valley and across of Vermont. Our goal—then and now—is to support local makers by sharing their inspiration and stories, and promoting the creation, terroir and superior quality of their products while connecting them to customers in Vermont and beyond. We opened the Mad River Taste Place in July 2017 to bring that vision to life and in 2020, we expanded our online store to continue to deliver these exceptional products across the US.
