Windfall Orchard Hard Cider Tasting

December 29, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Stop by the Taste Place to meet orchardist and cider maker Brad Kohler who will be on hand pouring samples and talking about the ice cider making process. Windfall Orchard’s Ice Cider is produced by blending over 30 traditional and heirloom apple varieties grown right at the Windfall orchard.

If you have never had ice cider, this is a great opportunity to learn about it. And, if you are familiar with ice ciders this is an excellent chance to try a very special one.

Paired with a beautiful aged Vermont Cheddar, Ice Cider is the perfect alternative to a traditional dessert. Easy. Elegant. Memorable.

About Windfall Orchard’s Ice Cider

Ice Cider is a sophisticated dessert wine made from apples. It was first developed two decades ago in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, just north of Vermont. Following Québécois practice and standards, Windfall Orchard’s apples are pressed in early winter and the juice set outside to freeze in Vermont’s naturally cold climate. The frozen cider is brought into the winery where it is melted to obtain a sugary concentration that is then fermented, while the water remains as ice. The result is a unique dessert wine with 9% alcohol, 15% residual sugar, and plenty of natural acidity to create a well balanced taste experience.

The taste is like a hypothetical melted scoop of apple gelato—one sip locks in so much apple flavor. It’s as if you were drinking the juice from ten apples in one gulp—multiplied by alcohol. It has a nice tartness without becoming syrupy sweet, and tastes especially good with cheese.
