One of the great foliage drives takes you into Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom and beautiful Lake Willoughby. You’ll pass through the charming towns of Hardwick, Barton, and Greensboro and after a stop at the Cabot Creamery and Hope Cemetery you return through Barre and Montpelier.

From Waitsfield, take VT-100 NORTH trough town to VT-100B. Follow that NORTH through Moretown to VT-2. Turn RIGHT onto VT-2 to Montpelier. Take Business RT 2 through town past the capitol. Turn RIGHT onto Main Street, cross the Winooski River and turn LEFT at the traffic light onto VT-302. Take that to East Montpelier where you go LEFT onto VT-14. Stay on that to Hardwick, where you will go EAST on VT-15. Go just 2 miles then turn LEFT onto VT-16 and go NORTH to Barton. In Barton, VT-5 NORTH takes you to Orleans and VT-58 EAST takes you to VT-5A. Take VT-5A SOUTH to Lake Willoughby, continue SOUTH on VT-5A to VT-5 at West Burke and on to Lyndonville. Vermont 5 SOUTH will take you to St. Johnsbury where you can take a break and visit the Fairbanks Museum and the Dog Chapel. Take VT-2 WEST out of St. Johnsbury. At West Danville (Joe’s Pond), take VT-15 WEST through Walden. Just 2 miles west, go LEFT onto Country Road to Cabot Creamery. After Cabot Creamery, continue SOUTH on Country Road to Vt-2. Stay on VT-2 to Vt-14 SOUTH to Barre. Just as you enter Barre, Hope Cemetery, with its outstanding examples of the stonecutter’s art, is on your RIGHT. After Hope Cemetery, continue SOUTH on Vt-14 to the traffic light. Go straight on VT-63, the access road to I-89. Take I-89 NORTH to Exit 9, Middlesex. Off the exit, turn LEFT and then LEFT again onto VT-2. Turn RIGHT onto VT-100B SOUTH to VT-100 SOUTH back to Waitsfield.
