Mad River Taste Week

An annual summer event featuring farm tours, tastings, pairings, dinners and more

The Mad River Food Hub’s annual Mad River Taste Week, a 9-day celebration of the food and beverage makers and growers of The Mad River Valley, will feature over 30 events from August 3-11.

Mad River Taste week will again kick off with a pig roast feast featuring dishes highlighting local farms and food producers. Bill Cavanaugh, Mad River Hub’s Manager, will spit-roast a whole Von Trapp Farmstead pig, deboned and stuffed like an Italian Porchetta. Side dishes that represent the best the Mad River Taste producers have to offer will be served and there will be a cash bar featuring cocktails from Mad River Distillers, beer from Lawson’s Finest Liquids and Collaborative Brewing, and cider from Tin Hat. The Pig Roast will be held at Mad River Green on Saturday 3rd August at 5.00 pm, this event was a sell out in 2018 and tickets can be purchased on line at

“Last year was the first year and we had many events sold out and visitors and locals had a great time. It’s exciting to be offering Mad River Taste Week again in 2019 to showcase our local food and beverage makers and growers” said Robin Morris, president and founder of the Mad River Food Hub and the Mad River Taste Place. “This year we are adding “Mad River Signature Taste” where local Restaurants and Inns will offer their guests a meal or beverage that has its origins in the Mad River Valley for the week.”

“The Mad River Valley has long been known for its exemplary food scene, one of the first and favored farmers’ markets in Vermont, an active localvore movement, and many award-winning artisans including Ploughgate CreameryVonTrapp FarmsteadLawson’s Finest LiquidsMad River DistillersTonewood MapleGreen Rabbit Bakery Tin Hat Cider and Vermont Bean Crafters.

Mad River Food Hub was founded in 2011 to increase the success of new and emerging food and beverage businesses in the Mad River Valley community. The Mad River Food Hub started as a food business incubator offering these local businesses access to USDA inspected processing rooms, cold storage and distribution for processing their meat and vegetable products. In 2017 Mad River Food Hub created the Mad River Taste program as a quality seal and to celebrate and promote the local makers and growers.

The Mad River Taste Place is a retail store opened in the Summer of 2017, to showcase these Mad River Taste products through tastings and learning.  The Taste Place is also chock full of local Vermont Products, frequent maker demonstrations and is the home to Vermont Cheese Council.
