Mountain View Inn – A MRV Institution

Fred & Susan Spencer have owned Mountain View Inn since 1978!  That is a huge accomplishment in an industry that the average owner lasts seven years!  The house was built in 1826. Allan and Nancy Clark purchased the rundown, old farm in 1943. It had no electricity, running water or central heat.  It was one of the first ski lodges in the Mad River Valley when it was opened the same year that Mad River Glen opened.

Fred and Susan lived and raised their three sons on the property.  Initially it was 4 bedrooms and 2 hall bathrooms.  Over the years, the inn has been renovated to include 3 more bedrooms and all have private bathrooms.  The guest rooms are all unique with gorgeous bed frames and quilts made by Susan.

Mountain View Inn is a quintessential Vermont Country Inn.  A cozy living room with a roaring fire in the winter,  a sunny parlor to hang out and play board games and a long farm table to gather for breakfast!  The blueberry pancakes are killer!  The inn does not have televisions, a choice they made in hopes that the guests will connect with each other.  But if you need to connect with technology, they do have WiFi!

When the Spencer’s are not attending to guests, Fred can be found in his shop on the property.  He is an expert in bending metal and fabricating everything from signage to intricate designs.  In fact, 2 of his signs can be found as far as Disneyland in Florida and Busch Gardens in Virginia.

Fred and Susan are an institution in The Mad River Valley and we thank them for their commitment to our community over the years.
