The Mad River Valley Bear Initiative (MRVBI) has created a new toolkit for property owners to help keep black bears wild. These materials are geared to visitors to the area as well as forvhomeowners themselves.

Bear Toolkit Includes:

  • Welcome Message “Let’s Talk About Bears”
  • BearWise information sheets in 3-hole protective sleeves useful for inserting in welcome binders
  • Refrigerator magnet with key messages about Living with Bears

This toolkit is free to property owners in the Mad River Valley.  The MRVBI is dedicated to promoting peaceful coexistence with our calorie-seeking bear community. We present a variety of community programs, run an annual storytelling contest, and attend farmers markets and fairs throughout the area. Members of the MRVBI include representatives from the Fayston, Waitsfield and Warren Conservation Commissions, Moretown Recreation Committee, Friend of the Mad River, Stark Mountain Foundation, Duxbury Land Trust and Sugarbush SEW Committee.
