Mountain Biking

Welcome to one of Vermont’s sweetest multi-use trail networks. The Mad River Riders‘ 60+ miles of trails link and loop throughout the Mad River Valley, connecting our special places with fun sustainable biking, hiking, skiing and snowshoeing routes for all abilities, including the beginner-friendly Blueberry Lake trails in the Green Mountain National Forest, classic technical trails at Eurich Pond, Chase Brook Town Forest, Camel’s Hump and Phen Basin State Forests and flowy classics starting at Lareau Farm and the Featherbed Inn

.

Here’s a quick rundown of some of the trails:

• Beginner-friendly and intermediate fun on the Blueberry Lake trail network in the Green Mountain National Forest, located on Plunkton Road in Warren. Trailhead & parking are found about 1/3 mile south of the entrance to the Blueberry Lake Recreation Area parking lot.
• New skills park in Moretown for all abilities with dirt, stone, and wooden features opened in 2021, more features planned; along with 1 mile beginner loop through the Moretown Forest Nature Trail that starts next to the Moretown Elementary School and passes through the new skills park. Park by the Moretown Town Offices next to the recreation fields.
• Classic technical trails at Eurich Pond, Chase Brook Town Forest, and Camel’s Hump  State Forests, located across Warren, Fayston, and Waitsfield.  These trails connect the lift-served downhill biking at Sugarbush Resort to the business, restaurants, and breweries in Waitsfield and Warren. Parking at Sugarbush Resort, off the Access Road at Sugarbush Inn’s overflow lot, both in Warren; at the Chase Brook Town Forest trailhead on German Flats Road in Fayston; and at the Lareau Swim Hole parking lot in Waitsfield. There is a cool pedestrian/bicyclist underpass to the south of the parking area that brings you safely under Route 100 to the Lareau Farm trailhead.

Sugarbush Resort Open for Thursday-Sunday service, 10 am to 5 pm, starting June 26th, 2021. Mountain Bike and protective gear rentals are available at The Farmhouse.

All downhill mountain biking terrain is located at Lincoln Peak, including 28 trails. Try out the bike park or a mixture of challenging descents and high-speed downhill runs. Please be aware that the trails are rated on a relative scale and that even the easiest routes require good skills.

Bike Shops: Sales, Rentals, Repairs & Lessons

• Sugarbush Resort offers trail bikes and electric “E bikes” rentals, repairs, and lessons.
• Stark Mountain Bike Works is a full service bike shop that has been the hub for mountain bikers in the MRV for  over 20 years. They offer biking accessories, repairs and tune-up services for those with their own bikes. Stark Mountain Bike Wroks offers a 6-day a week shuttle service from the shop at Route 17/100 intersection in Waitsfield to the Tucker Hill and Eurich Pond trailheads; call 802-496-4800 for reservations.
• Bike Express located at in Waterbury (corner of route 100 and Route 2) offers quality, friendly, and knowledgeable service. They are a full service bike shop selling road, gravel, mountain and e-bikes along with clothing and accesories. Conveniently lcated near the Perry Hill network.

Where to Stay

• Many of our local lodges are bike-friendly, offering washing stations and lock-up storage for your equipment.
• The Featherbed Inn’s 20 acres are situated in the middle of The Mad River Riders 50 miles of trails, with the new Featherbed Connector trail taking you directly from the inn’s grounds to the Revolution Trail on their property and beyond, including the infamous Chef’s Table jump.

The Mad River Riders are a founding chapter of the Vermont Mountain Bike Association (Celebrating 35 years!) and have official partnerships with the USFS-Green Mountain National Forest, VT-

Forests, Parks & Recreation, the Mad River Valley Recreation District, the towns of Duxbury, Fayston, Moretown, Waitsfield, and Warren, the Catamount Trail Association, Mad River Path Association, VT Association of Snow Travelers, the Vermont Land Trust, Trust for Public Land, the Mad River Valley Community Fund and numerous private landowners, yielding one of the broadest coalitions of landowners, land managers, and recreation and conservation groups in the US.

Through these collaborations, they are able to steward the largest multi-use (bike, hike, snowshoe, and ski) trail network in the MRV, with new trail building every season to better connect the existing systems and our community centers. They are also part of the Velomont group of VMBA chapters and the VT Hut Association working to link Killington to Stowe, through Killington Mountain Bike Club, Green Mountain Trails, Rochester and Randolph Sport Trails Association,  Waterbury Area Trails Association and Stowe Trails Partnership. These associations, along with numerous private landowners, yields one of the broadest coalitions of landowners, land managers, and recreation and conservation groups in the nation.
