The Mad River is a tributary to the Winooski River in Vermont. It’s headwaters are in to the south in the town of Granville. It  flows north through the towns of Warren, Waitsfield, and Moretown before entering the Winooski River just downstream from Middlesex. There’s plenty of water and you can always find a secluded location to catch trout even when it seems there are a lot of visitors.

Whether it is bass fishing on Blueberry Lake, trout fishing on the Winooski River or Lake Champlain walleye fishing, Vermont offers some diverse fishing opportunities. The MRV’s niche is  fly fishing for trout.

Opening day for trout fishing in Vermont  is in early April and the river is usually stocked in mid-May.   Remember: always practice catch and release.
