Chamber Hosts Service Industry Sexual Assault Awareness Workshop

The Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that they will be hosting a very important and timely workshop for its member businesses.

The program is called  Awareness of Sexual Assault, Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence in the Service Industry.  It is designed to create awareness of these issues which we know are certainly occurring in resort communities around the country and here in Vermont. The program is also focused on supporting the safety of the employees at our hospitality businesses. We’d like to thank Sugarbush and Mad River Glen for taking a leadership role and sponsoring this important and progressive program.

The program will take place on Friday,November 12th from 10am-12pm at Sugarbush’s Gate House Lodge. It will be led and facilitated by Anna Nasset of Stand Up Resources. Anna is an award-winning international speaker on the subjects of stalking, sexual assault, bystander prevention and more. She has spoken to thousands of people from military, law enforcement, colleges and is keen on extending her reach into the hospitality industry. The workshop is open to all MRV Chamber members and their employees. Advance Registration is Required!

Having worked in the service industry off and on since she was 16 years old Anna knows it well!  She notes that; “We like to think that each of our guests are safe and having a wonderful and consensual time, we all serve to please. But sadly, this is not always the case.” Statistics alone show us that sexual assault, human trafficking, and other crimes are happening at our inns, restaurants, bars, and resorts every week. Through storytelling, facilitated conversation, statistics, exercises, and response Anna will teach attendees on how to recognize and respond to sexually related crimes that may take place at their businesses, and how to support your employees. Additionally, Anna will give attendees tips and skills to empower their employees to safely serve guests while maintaining their agency and voice. Handouts curated to ski resorts, restaurants, and inns will also be provided to display for staff and guests.

Attendees will learn how to:

  • Address Human Trafficking
  • Advocate for Safety of your Employees
  • Respond to Sexual Assault
  • Creating a Culture of Safety
Anna Nasset is a board member of the MRV Chamber, a board member of EVAWI (End Violence Against Women International) in addition to being a speaker, writer, podcaster, graphic designer and fiber artist.
