Swimming in the Mad River Valley
There is nothing better than a refreshing dip on a hot summer day.
The Mad River Valley has some of the greatest swim holes on the planet. Here are a few of our favorites:
Great Eddy Bridge Swim Hole
Located in historic Waitsfield Village next to our covered Bridge. This swimming hole has something for everyone. There is a rocky beach stretching out from the edge and a deep pool located right below the bridge. A little upstream is a less-frequented spot and there is a strip of rocks in the middle of the river when the river is high.
Lareau Farm Swim Hole
The hole is popular with families and features a lovely grassy area. It has a great ledge to jump off of and is an ideal place to start a tubing adventure. Featured in Seven Days “Stuck in Vermont” video segment on Vermont Swimming Holes.
Mad River Greenway Swimming Hole
Good for the whole family, go down the bank to the pebbly beach and wade into the cool, flowing Mad River. There are rocks that form a gentle “rapid” to play in. Good for kids as well as the family dog!
Riverside Park in Warren
This quiet Mad River swimming spot, right off of Rt. 100, is shaded, shallow, and welcoming. There is a parking area, a picnic table, and a rope swing and is perfect for a family outing.
The Punch Bowl
For many years, the Punch Bowl has been a recognized nude swimming hole so discretion is advised. It is a beautiful spot with water cascading over boulders and pools as much as 10-feet deep. There are also some picnic tables and dogs are welcome.
Ward’s Swimming Hole
Just north of the Mad River Valley, on Rt. 100B is a gem of a swimming hole and small park. There are rocks to climb, boulders to hop, and a large grassy area to enjoy on a warm summer’s day.
